Using Autoresponder for Marketing

For those of you who do not know what an autoresponder is, and even if you do know – here are several definitions:

A program that usually resides on a server that sends automatic replies to people who send emails to a particular email address. Or try this one that is a little clearer: An autoresponder is a software program that sends a pre-written reply to anyone sending a message to its email address.

Usually, that would be an address on your website. If someone sends an email, it automatically and immediately emails this person a reply (for example: "Thanks for contacting me. I am out of the office at the moment, but will reply shortly.

Well, that doesn't sound too complicated now does it? One thing you need to understand though is that the autoresponder does NOT write your emails for you – darn it all anyway – and it does not involve spam or sending unsolicited email. What is DOES mean is this: you set up a sequence of prewritten emails that are then sent out to your prospects in your database at regular intervals.

Okay, now, heard this saying? "The money is in the list!" If you haven't heard it then you are likely new to online marketing. If you have heard it then chances are you KNOW why the gurus of marketing say that the more people you have on your mailing list that are interested in your products/services, the more sales you will make. That's almost a no brainer that one – but do you see the point?

Think convenience – think of sending out emails to your prospect list while you are not even online. Think SMART! Here's something you can do to maximize your time and your list mining abilities. You create – oh let's make it a ten part email campaign. Then what you do is set up the intervals for sending the emails. Maybe you start by sending the first one on day one, then the second on day four and so on.

Bonus – you only write the emails once, so anyone joining your list will automatically get all your campaign emails. Someone want to unsub from your list? That's no problem either, not only are they added to the list automatically, they can unsub automatically as well.

Make a note of this next point because it is THE MOST critical one in autoresponding e-marketing – People need to be told about a product or service at least SEVEN times before they buy it/try it. Bet you're thinking "Oh wow, I'm going to come across as a major nuisance if I send them SEVEN emails!" Well don't feel bad, you don't send them seven emails – you send them TEN.

And chances are you weren't even going to send seven were you? Remember, and this needs to be emphasized once more, you can only send emails to your opt-in prospects because they HAVE opted in to get your information.

Whoever else lands on your web site is nice traffic, but won't necessarily stay, so focus on those who want what you have to offer – those who are thirsty for your product/service.

Really, the other name for this is permission marketing. Makes sense doesn't it? People say yes to getting emails from you – but you must – repeat MUST – give them back free quality information. No hyper sales pitches just real honest to goodness down to earth information with a small mention about your product at the end of the email. Sugar is better to catch flies than vinegar.

The longer you send people good information then can actually use, the better you look and the better they get to know you. The longer you can have a "relationship" (remember relationship marketing) the more likely they are to buy from you. Yeah, yeah, but what about printing flyers, brochures and other things for the customers. You don't need to do that with an autoresponder system.

Think about the saved money here. The autoreponder lets you keep in touch with every last name on your mailing list 24/7/365 and you don't have to do much to accomplish that. Not only is that smart marketing, it's cost effective as well.

So where do I get an autoresponder program? Lots of places, but here’s one that has a FREE trial – GetResponse.

We've talked about the benefits of this kind of a program, now what about the cons? Actually, there aren't that many cons – but you do need to know that some people feel it's impersonal and that they get frustrated to no end when they think they won't get a reply to the autoresponder message.

And, no matter how thoroughly you think you have covered every thing in your emails – there WILL be questions – you can guarantee it.

Unanswered questions can ruin your campaign, answered questions on the other hand have a much more positive effect. So you work to make your email campaigns as personal as possible, almost like you were sitting across the table from the person and telling them what they needed to know about your product/service.

You encourage your subscribers to respond to you, letting them know you are a real, live person not a robot.

Ask for responses or feedback in a couple of ways: the first one would be to include a line or two in your signature line. Something like – "If you have any questions just hit the reply button in your email program and I'll be back to you as soon as I can."

OR, you can send a special message in one of your follow up emails for your campaign, that is solely for the purpose of telling people they can contact you anytime.

If you're using an autoresponder campaign, them make darn good and sure you have a valid email address as the 'From/Reply' address for your lists. It needs to be an email address you check on a regular basis. The whole purpose of this of course it to develop the kind of relationship that makes your list subscribers comfortable buying from you, going back to your website or in joining FOL.

The Difference Between Permission Marketing With An Autoresponder Program and RSS Autoresponders

Ok, autoresponder marketing got easier and a lot simpler with the advent of RSS Autoresponders. You need to be aware of them as well, and why they are often used as the autoresponder of choice for many online marketers.

But first, what are RSS Autoresponders? RSS stands for either Rich Site Summary or Real Simple Syndication and they work very much like traditional email autoresponders. Similar, but different, with different features and benefits.

• You can personalize your outgoing messages using custom data fields (like traditional email). This gives your message a professional look and feel, and that means more credibility for you as a pro marketer.
• Use all the spam forbidden email words. Since you are an RSS publisher the spam filters don't nab you now.
• Unlimited message delivery is possible. Knock yourself out with a campaign to end all campaigns with this system.
• Send as often as you like without hitting the filters. Since delivery is 100%, you will hit home 100% of the time. End result? More profit to you.
• Tons of options for managing your subscribers.
• Ad tracking and report generation. Nice touch. You can track who, when, where and what week or month your subscriber joined etc. The stats provided will enhance your future campaigns.
