30 Days "Take Action" Program - Day 21
The Bounce Back aka Catching Them on the Fly By!
No doubt you're all interested in finding FREE ways to generate leads for your FOL business or other businesses (if you happen to be in more than just FOL businesses). We all know that keeping our expenses down can only be a benefit in marketing, especially when we're just starting out. One of the easier ways to do this is by using the Bounce Back technique.
What are Bounce Backs?
Bounce backs are used in response to someone sending YOU information on a business opportunity. You need to respond to THEM on a personal level with a short and to the point note, as they are obviously actively marketing and can likely use the FOL team support.
Don't add your name to an auto responder system, because you want to review each e-mail to see if it qualifies as a potential recruit. Now having said that, a good place to enter your e-mail address is on a FREE auto responder test site as many of these sell the e-mails and you can get on hundreds of lists in no time flat.
In case you're not familiar with the term auto responder, it's a mail utility that automatically sends a reply to an e-mail message. They're used to send back boilerplate information on a topic without having the requester do anything more than e-mail a particular address.
They are also used to send a confirmation that the message has been received. BE AWARE that a lot of bounce back e-mails will wind up in your BULK/SPAM box by default because Yahoo has very aggressive Spam filters.
Here's the How-To Part!
First get organized before you start this process, by doing the following:
- 1) Setup a FREE Yahoo e-mail account specifically designed for marketing online. You can use the new Yahoo management software for your e-mail contacts.
- 2) Create two folders in your Yahoo e-mail management area. One called LEADS where e-mails worth responding to will go after you've sorted them out of the BULK/SPAM or INBOX. Label the other folder BOUNCED TO. Put emails you have bounced back on, from your Leads file in this folder. Mark each email as Spam or Good Lead, to help you sort mail.
Getting On Lists
Start first by doing a search for specific target markets you're familiar with, or general searches for business opportunities. Keep track of the URLs you have visited and signed up for so you don't subscribe twice to the same list. Don't just use one engine to search, because different engines will return different results. Try these engines:
What Search Terms You Can Use! Here's a short list of some of the search parameters you can use - but you can certainly get creative and do other searches as well. Another thing to remember is some of the following search terms are classified as Spam by filters. If you bounce back on e-mails from those who reply using these headings, be prepared to check your filtered e-mail and hope their e-mail accepts your reply.
- Home based business
- Business opportunity
- Working from home
- How to make money from home
- Network marketing
- Party Plan companies
- Direct sales companies
Sorting Out Who To Respond To Or Who is for Real and Who is Fake Sorting through the junk mail can be frustrating when you aren't sure which ones to respond too. You want a REAL person, not someone sending out mass e-mails who isn't likely to respond to your bounce back. Here are a few clues to help you sort out the fakes from the real deal e-mails.
Fake emails leave clues like:
· 4396abi@134be.com is a sign · A hi Tom in the subject line when you name is Cheryl, unless of course you and your husband share your box, and his name is Tom · The to e-mail isn't yours in the To: field
Real people looking for the real thing:
· tom@comcast.net is a good sign for the return email · To you personally or generically addressed
· signed with a real name · return email address in body of text · phone number, not just a hot line call number · website info that also has senders name on it · website where you can get their return email address from
Verifying An Email For the e-mail detectives out there you can sniff out potential real e-mail addresses even in what appears like a bogus e-mail in the email headers. Warning : this may not be an effective use of your time, since you are looking for credible people to work with. Regardless, here is how you verify an e-mail.
In order to confirm the authenticity of an e-mail message, it is sometimes necessary to check the full header, which is typically not displayed when you are reading your e-mail. What you are looking for, is the chronologically first 'Received: from' entry in the header.
Check to see that it is consistent or has some logical connection to the 'From:' address. The 'From:' address is very easy to forge, but not the 'Received: from' fields. Try this on a piece of Spam e-mail to see what you get.
Here are instructions for viewing the full header of an e-mail message using a few of the more common e-mail programs. Yes, we have directions for other e-mail programs, but in the interests of keeping this lesson fairly short, we will send them to you if you request them.
Outlook Express 6
- Right click on a message.
- Select 'Properties'.
- If you have already double clicked on a message, drop down the 'File' menu and select 'Properties'.
- Click on the 'Details' tab.
- You can click 'Message Source....' and super size the resulting window be able to read the header better.
Yahoo (web based mail)
- Log into your Yahoo Mail account
- Click the 'Options' link on the navigation bar
- Click the 'General Preferences' link
- Go to the paragraph titled Messages and Locate the Show Headers heading and select 'All'
- Click the 'Save' button to put your new settings into effect
- Once the setting is saved, go back and open your email and view the headers
Yahoo (new online version)
- Log into your Yahoo Mail account
- Click on email that you want to view headers on
- Click on the 'Compact Header' link OR 'Standard Header' link on the bar at the top of the reading panel
- Click on 'Full Header' a separate window will open with the header information
Hotmail
- Log into Hotmail
- Click on 'Options' tab on the top navigation bar
- Click on the 'Mail Display Settings' link
- Change the 'Message Headers' option to 'Full'
- Click the 'OK' button
AOL Mail
If the e-mail is sent from anywhere OTHER than AOL, and you are receiving it in AOL, then open the e-mail you want to trace, or have your client open the e-mail, and look for the link 'Details'. This link is usually just below the To: e-mail in the e-mail message. If the e-mail is sent from an AOL user to another AOL user then the Reverse AOL screen name search can get you the sender's information.
Gmail
- Log into your Gmail account
- Open the email whose headers you want to view
- Click on the 'More Options'
- Now click the link called 'Show Original'
- This will bring up a new window with headers and the body of the message
More Investigative Work If they give you a website to view but the e-mail address they sent with the website link looks bogus, check out the web site and see if you can find their real email address. You may also find additional name information on their website. Once you have viewed their e-mail, and their website, you'll have a feel for the people you are e-mailing.
Google their names and see what else they might be promoting online. How they lay their e-mail out and what they say will give you an idea of how much or how little marketing experience they have. This is another good thing for you to know when you draft your e-mail to them.
Sample Bounce Back E-Mails! Here's the first bounce back e-mail you send, and yes, it can be modified. Remember to fill in the business name or product name in the blank line of the e-mail sample.
To: insert a valid to email address
Subject line: you use the same subject line as they used to send to you because you are going to reply to their email
Hi Name, I got your email about your opportunity program. I took a look at the website you mentioned in your email. Very interesting concept or opportunity – point out something that caught your attention.
Although I appreciate your information, I have launched my own business and marketing plan, and it's going extremely well for me. By the way, what I'm doing doesn't conflict with your program. In fact, it would enhance your efforts greatly. How are you doing with your program? Could you use some help achieving more? If you're satisfied with your results, I'm happy for you and wish you luck.
However, if you want more from your program, let me know and I'll send you details on how I can help you succeed on a whole new level. We offer a REAL training and support program that helps others build their primary business with some secondary income from us.
Anyway, all the best to you!
